Which workspace events are worth measuring?

A practical way to choose events that explain behaviour instead of merely increasing data volume.

Useful event tracking begins with a decision, not an interface. Before naming a click or screen view, ask what uncertainty a workplace team needs to reduce. A room-booking event becomes valuable when it helps distinguish genuine demand from abandoned intent, repeated retries or late cancellations.

Start with moments that change the state of a workplace journey: a booking confirmed, access denied, request assigned, desk released or issue resolved. Add the minimum context needed to interpret that moment, such as location, workspace type, channel and elapsed time. Avoid collecting personal attributes simply because they are available.

Finally, test each candidate event against a real review rhythm. If nobody can name the decision, owner and frequency connected to a signal, it is probably instrumentation debt in waiting.
